Weekend Wrap-up

Andy, 13 April 2003

Ah, this has been a decent weekend. After seeing a satisfactory production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying performed by the Muir Musical Ensemble, Fonty and I headed for that big party I mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, since the musical was long, we didn’t arrive there until midnight—just in time to hear that all 5 kegs had been killed and that the $1000 worth of hard liquor that had been reportedly purchased for the occasion had also run dry. This made us sad, since it was only midnight. Talk about a party foul. Even worse was the fact that the assholes at the door were still trying to charge the $2 cover even though all the booze was gone. We talked our way past them and said hi to Karen, Oakley and a few others inside, then wormed our way back out of the 1000-strong crowd and back to campus. We ended up at Carol’s place in I-House, which was fun. There were even some drinks left to wet our whistles with, so I was content to climb into bed by 3am, bitter that I had to wake up at 7:00am the next day.

I had to wake up that early because of Admit Day, when thousands of high school seniors who have been admitted to UCSD come to campus to get one last look before they make their decision. Student orgs line Library Walk and try to recruit them, and we busied ourselves at the MQ table by handing out past issues and hitting on all the pre-froshies. I got pretty sunburnt, but despite the heat we were all looking cool in our swanky clothes as we heckled kids and their fat, dumb parents. Swanky clothes were, by the way, our theme, so I had adorned a shirt, tie and a pair slacks. The girls were all looking hot in dresses and the like, so I’m sure we made quite an impression on those damn high school kids.

Afterwards, to relax and forget our sunburns, we had an impromptu BBQ at Liz’s place where we just sat around and shot the breeze. Two cheeseburgers and 40oz. of Mickey’s later, I had totally forgotten about how sore my knees were from standing up from 8:30am to 2:30pm and I retired that night as happy as a clam.

Now it’s Sunday, I woke up at 2:30pm, and I’ve got a shitload of work to do. Goddamnit.

The House Party to End All House Parties

Andy, 11 April 2003

There’s a huge party tonight that everyone seems to have heard about. I heard about it from Fonty, whose roommate Karen is helping to organize it. Last time I was at a party with Karen, she gave me a rather absurd lapdance, so I’m eager to see what goes down tonight. Troy heard about the party from his boss at work, and Megan from next door heard about it somewhere else. It’s going to be huge. My bet is that the cops are going to shut it down before midnight, but we’ll see. The people organizing it are doing so under the guise of a fake frat, and they’ve even printed up rave cards to get the word out. I can’t wait.

Of course, I have to be awake and out on Library Walk at 9:00am the next morning to greet prospective freshmen and convince them to come to UCSD and join the MQ. We’re getting all dressed up for it—I’ll provide a full report later.

Gorging Myself

Andy, 6 April 2003

I’m so damn full! Arrrgh. Despite the pain, Tadashi’s is heaven on earth. They even have sake that I like, which I didn’t think existed. Now I’m going to do some programming, even though it’s Saturday night—I’m too damn full to go in search of parties.

Also, Cowboy Bebop was a rad movie. Brian, if you’re reading this, I think you keep your hair like you do so you can be more like Spike. It’s okay, I approve.

Good Times With the MQ

Andy, 5 April 2003

Tonight has been great. Jacuzzi, bikinis, beer, and carne asada fries. I even appreciated the little spats of rain while we were in the broiling hottub.

Tomrrow I’m starving myself to prepare for all-you-can-eat sushi at Tadashi’s, followed by watching the Cowboy Bebop movie at a nearby theater. I’m going to eat sushi until I’m in acute pain. Awesome.

PS: Drunk.
