Sungod

Andy, 23 May 2004

Goddamn, it’s time for a recap. I always try and store a week’s worth of events in memory so I can provide our (dwindling) audience with an entertaining update, but when it comes time to perform, I always freeze up and can’t remember everything.

My nose is really runny.

Last weekend was the final MQ production of the year. It’s nice to be done for awhile. The week went by quickly, although I had a hell of a time meeting any deadlines. I pushed back my ten page research paper for my independent studies with Adriene Jenik, and I half-assed the proposal for my final project in VIS 145A. At least my project for VIS 140 turned out marginally well.

Friday, of course, was Sungod. I woke rather early and took the shuttle to Ralph’s. After turning in my resume and an official application to the photo department, I walked over to Fonty’s, joined the gang, and got trashed. We all took the shuttle to campus and split up, meeting up here and there throughout the day. My memories are scattered, but I recall seeing scuba divers navigate the Price Center fountain and skydivers parachute into Rimac. All told, after my initial Brass Monkey (delicious new pet), I had about 16 oz of vodka and 10 oz of Triple Sec. I know these measurements because I carried the liquor in plastic bottles in my backpack during our travels across campus. I have never heard the city shuttle so fucking loud as it was on that day. I don’t recall ever entering Rimac, but the Moving Units performance was amazing. I was pretty out of it, but that’s probably thanks in part to the booze. We left before Busta Rhymes took the stage, but apparently his set was mostly yelling at the crowd for not being enthusiastic enough. I am only slightly upset that I missed it. I am more upset, however, that I missed all the AS dweebs streak through Price Center. Does anyone have photos?

Hey, my nose cleared up. I guess I’ll go to bed now.

I ended my last post with, “I promise.” That was a month ago. Yep, I’m a liar.

It’s been so long since spring break that I can’t accurately recall the last two days of my time in Rochester with Brian and Mike. The night before I left was crazy; we tried to hit up four or five parties and Brian almost ended up getting pummeled for telling some guy to stop disrespecting the girls around him. The flight back was uneventful, but I was really happy to get back to San Diego. Kimiko, puffy-faced from having her wisdom teeth removed two days prior, picked me up and I immediately settled back into my old routine.

The weekend of April 24th was MQ production. I was in the office until 10am on Monday rushing to wrap things up. Needless to say, it took me a few days and more than a few drinks to recover.

Last weekend was insane. On Friday, Kimiko and I went to the Foosh improv tournament and watched the asinine, undeserving UCI team take first place over UCLA and UCSD. The kids from LA probably should have won. Afterwards we had our caricature drawn at Mirage, the Persian culture fair. Kimiko picked up a henna tattoo somewhere in the mix and we went home and crashed afterward. On Saturday, the girl and I woke up ridiculously early to go play in an Over the Line tournament hosted by Muir College. The MQ had two teams, one with Marianne, Reid and I, and the other rounded out by Andrew, Kurt and Kimiko. Our team lost all our games, and Kimiko’s team made the playoffs. We left before said playoffs however; the group decided we had put off the hard liquor for long enough. I came out of the three hours of light exercise embarrassingly sore and a bit sun burnt. The 2nd Hard Liquor BBQ started at my place at 4pm, and people were pretty tossed within an hour. Kimiko battled more hard liquor than her Asian genes could handle and was out cold by 5:30. Several people ended up getting sick, and my place was pretty tore up afterwards. I’m guessing I would have enjoyed myself more had I not stayed relatively sober. The last guests left around midnight, and Kimiko and I crashed after a good deal of cleanup. We (bitterly) woke up at 8 on Sunday morning so we could make it to Kimiko’s parents’ house by 10 and we were on our way to PetCo Park for my very first baseball game by 10:30. Kimiko, her parents and I had a nice picnic lunch in the tailgating section of the parking lot, complete with beer for the boys. We were in the park with more than two hours to spare, but Kimiko’s parents kept me happy with beer and peanuts. The game itself was pretty fun, and the garlic fries we got later were awesome (and completely destroyed our breath). We left the game during the 8th inning and went back to Kimiko’s parents’ place to swim while her dad barbequed a delicious dinner of steak, chicken, artichokes and salad. I was already feeling way spoiled when out of the blue Kimiko’s dad washed my car (inside and out, lordy) before they let us out the door. I guess you could say the parents and I get along just fine.

I have an animation project due tomorrow, a logo design project due the day after, and a ten page research paper due next week. I’m fucked.

Kimiko and I are making a nice dinner tonight to celebrate our seven month anniversary. Time flies when you’re having fun.
